As children, some of us have owned the Nintendo Entertainment system and played the game Duck Hunt. The player shot at the birds flying across the sky and accrued points. It's very similar to a real world activity – pheasant hunting.
There are certain states with ample opportunity for pheasant hunters, most of them in the Midwest and Great Plains. One particular state that stands out is South Dakota, which features the pheasant as its state bird. South Dakota pheasant hunting is a major source of revenue for the state, as many out-of-state hunters come to hunt the ring-necked pheasant there.
So profitable and sentimental to locals is the pheasant hunting in South Dakota that a new land conservation and management bill is being considered in the state government. The goal is to try and ensure that the provisions and enforcement of the bill do not damage the pheasant population and that the pheasants don't lose all the of the land they use as a habitat.
Of course, not all pheasants are in South Dakota. Kansas pheasant hunting includes associations and individuals supporting the hunt. Pheasant hunting regulations in the state include laws against trespassing, and no one can hunt on private property without the owner's permission. As result, landowners that allow people to hunt on their land can make some money for themselves.
Iowa is another Midwest state that boasts a pheasant population suitable for hunting. North-central and northwest parts of the state are the best locations for pheasant hunting. Iowa also provides hunting lodges at rates similar to both South Dakota and Kansas. Iowa pheasant hunting regulations require residents and non residents to purchase small game licenses. Hunters are also required to wear one article of clothing that is color blaze orange and covers 50% of their body.
Washington pheasant hunting is a popular activity. As a result, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is striving to improve conditions for pheasants and pheasant hunting throughout the state. The state is focusing on the western part, which has cold, wet temperatures and a general lack of grain farming that makes inhabiting that area difficult for pheasants.
As with any type of game hunting, it's not just about knowing which state to go to. A pheasant hunter should have an idea of how to hunt for prey. There are several pheasant hunting tips available to provide hunters with a successful hunt. One good tidbit of information is that pheasants begin their day early, starting to feed at around 8:00 AM. As a result, it's best to be there about an hour or so later while the pheasants are distracted by finding and eating food. It's also not a good idea to go in small hunting groups. The pheasants will instinctively flee any predators, so in large fields it may become impossible to find a pheasant.
Pheasant hunting is among the more popular game-hunting sports in the country. Though there are other locations where pheasants can be hunted, the states mentioned are among the best to go for hunting excursions. Pick a state and enjoy the thrill of the hunt!
