Quail Hunting: Texas, Georgia, Oklahoming, North Carolina Trip

Quail hunting has long been considered an aristocracy sport because its participants are not supposed to engage before the break of dawn. Nevertheless, it is not entirely exclusive to the rich, and given a few tips, one can enjoy quail hunting trips with great ease and convenience.

To start everything off, there are the gears that have to be considered. As mentioned before, quail hunting is a sports activity, one needs to be properly attired. For the body, a comfortable hunting shirt with front load features is essential; preferably one that has an accompanying vest of blazing orange color. Orange is usually specified because unlike other sports, quail hunting requires the participants to be highly visible. Since quails are known to take flight quickly and without notice, this leaves most hunters frantically running after them. Thus exposing themselves to a variety of accidents and dangers during which they need to be easily identified.

Since quail hunting requires running, short, leather-based boots are also needed. These should be ably complemented by a good pair of sturdy, briar-faced pants. These two particular apparels are primarily intended to address the cautionary aspect of quail hunting. The boots become especially significant in areas where quails share their habitat with dangerous rattlesnakes, hence, requiring the need for thick protective footwear. Meanwhile, the pants are meant for areas where thistles and briars abound. These are also common dwelling places of many quails, and hunters wearing briar-faced pants will find themselves sufficiently protected.

As for good places for quail hunting trips, a look into the many U.S. areas reveals many places where quail hunting is commonly found. Texas, for example, is quite popular among hunters, particularly the western area which includes the cities of Wichita Falls, Jacksboro, Childress and Abilene. Here, Texas quail hunting, specifically of the Bobwhite variety, has been prevalent for more than 10 years. And yet, the Texas quail hunting population continues to grow, thanks largely through proper management.

For more Bobwhite quail varieties, Oklahoma is also worth visiting since Oklahoma quail hunting is quite popular. Harper County is ideal for Oklahoma quail hunting, particularly its northwestern region. It is actually teeming with Bobwhites, along with other known game animals such as prairie dogs, whitetail deers and ringneck pheasants.

Georgia quail hunting is often fun and exciting at the Quail Harvest Plantation in Doerun. This spot for Georgia quail hunting is where hunters get to be paired with highly-trained quail dogs as they explore the vast field either in the morning or in the afternoon.

This is not the case in North Carolina, as the quail population here has declined in recent years due to habitat destruction. Still, North Carolina quail hunting is not entirely gone, as there are efforts to revive the sport by preserving the few wildlife-preserved lands. North Carolina quail hunting is also aided by planting wheat, milo, partridge peas and other common quail foods in former quail habitats. This encourages population growth and helps preserve a rare species, something that ought to be duplicated in many other areas where quails are slowly becoming a dying breed.

Whichever state the hunting of quails takes place, it is sure to be an exciting and adventurous day. No longer confined to the pastimes of aristocrats, quail hunting can be enjoyed by anyone ready for the chase.
